Position Description:

The Center for Cardiometabolic Science (CCS) has an opening for a Research Coordinator. The primary function of this position is to oversee and facilitate research activities in the supervisor's laboratory and the CCS Animal Core, as well as to assist laboratory administrative duties in the CCS. These duties include coordinating with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Comparative Medicine Research Unit (CMRU) for animal housing; performing survival surgeries; post-operative care; maintenance of equipment; training graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff in metabolic-related techniques and procedures; coordinating with Core users to schedule related research; maintain scheduling; and perform billing via FBS system. Concerning the administrative duties, these include overseeing laboratory orders for equipment and supplies; preparing protocols, updating protocols by writing and submitting modifications/amendments, developing standard operating procedures and lab specific documents (IACUC protocol, DEA record, chemical inventory, chemical hygiene plan, databases, spreadsheets); preparing for IACUC and DEHS inspections; and assisting in preparation of materials for grants and manuscripts as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule and direct operations to ensure timely and effective completion of all planned activities and projects
  • Prepare reports of activities to share with supervisor
  • Monitor data collection and analysis for research studies as directed by supervisor
  • Modify existing laboratory policies and procedures, e.g., IACUCs, to facilitate the acquisition of research data in a scientifically rigorous manner and to maintain regulatory compliance
  • Train junior faculty, post docs, graduate students and staff in rodent handling and related tests
  • Perform rodent surgery, telemetry, and metabolic phenotyping
  • Maintain CCS Core records of use and billing for services rendered to users
  • Maintain Core equipment
  • Assist laboratory orders
  • Manage IACUC protocols and inspections

Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory rodent handling experience with familiarity in surgical approaches and post-operative care
  • Knowledge of research techniques
  • Strong background in coordinating scientific research with multiple investigators
  • Experience in data handling and storage
  • Understanding and familiarity with regulations governing animal use in research
  • Experience in ordering experimental supplies, equipment and animals.
Target Compensation Maximum:

$72,826.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$47,476.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
