Job Summary

Department Purpose

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and lifelong wellness. SHCS has approximately 180 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, and pre and postdoctoral psychology trainees. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Association for Counseling Services) and APA (American Psychological Association). SHCS Counseling Services are staffed by an educationally diverse group of licensed masters therapists, pre- and post-doctoral trainees, psychologists and psychiatrists. We are dedicated to providing student-centered mental health services, advocacy, outreach, and consultation to promote psychological well-being and academic success. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Director of Academic Satellites at Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS), this position serves as a Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and has recognized expertise in specific areas performs professional patient/client care (individual, partner, group, crisis intervention, and case management) for UC Davis School of Law students. This work requires analysis of unique issues which may be without precedent. Provides management of campus-wide programs on education, multicultural concerns, and prevention, formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. Functions with a high degree of autonomy, and provides supervision and training to Counseling Services trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program. Consults with faculty and staff on issues relevant to student educational performance and emotional well-being. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. Complies with professional requirements of SHCS and UC Davis policies and procedures as well as all State and Federal professional legal requirements. May provide supervision and training to Counseling Service trainees in an APA accredited internship and APPIC-member postdoctoral program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Extended periods of working at a computer.
  • Work in multiple locations and move from building to building.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work evenings and some weekends.
  • Position subject to credentialing process at Student Health and Counseling Services.
  • Position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist of infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
  • Position requires signing a statement acknowledging requirement to report child abuse (CANRA) and requirement to report suspected abuse of dependent adults and elders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Minimum License/Certification:       

  • Masters level clinical/counseling degree (e.g. LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) required. Masters level applicants are governed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and are required to possess a valid California license. Masters therapist applicants possessing a valid license in another state must obtain California licensure within 30 days of job offer.
  • Current CPR Certification.

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Experience treating individuals from diverse social, cultural, or socio-cultural backgrounds using short-term models of individual psychotherapy and counseling.
  • Experience assessing and intervening with individuals in crisis.
  • Interest in and experience providing psycho-educational outreach presentations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:            

  • Experience working with historically underrepresented or underserved student communities (e.g. LGBTQIA, African Diaspora, Chicanx/Latinx, Native American, etc.).
  • Experience working in a university counseling service with strong student service orientation.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Ability to provide supervision to predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees
  • Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations.
