Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Dr. Andrew Westbrook is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellows to join the Brain Modulation & Control Lab led by Dr. Westbrook and located at the Rutgers Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (CAHBIR) and the RWJMS Department of Psychiatry. Through cognitive and computational neuroscience, BMC Lab seeks to elucidate the mechanisms underlying control of brain function and behavior. Dr Westbrook’s team leverages MRI, EEG, TMS, pharmacology, eye-tracking, and computational modeling to study how neuromodulators shape the neural dynamics underlying higher order cognitive function with a particular focus on cognitive control and working memory.
CAHBIR (https://sites.rutgers.edu/cahbir/) provides a state-of-art facility for brain imaging research including a research dedicated 3T Scanner. It also includes a TMS-EEG Core directed by Dr. Westbrook. Additionally, Rutgers affiliated centers including the Rutgers University Center for Cognitive Science, the Rutgers-Princeton Center for Computational Cognitive Neuropsychiatry, the Rutgers Brain Health Institute and the RWJMS Department of Psychiatry provide exceptional opportunities for learning in clinical and cognitive neuroscience.
Postdoctoral fellows will be supervised by Dr. Westbrook and will contribute to ongoing projects and develop independent research projects that fall within the broader research goals of BMC Lab. Responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Fellow include designing, organizing, executing and communicating the results of research studies that further the aims of the lab. Research topics are quite flexible and can include cutting edge methods for the analysis of EEG and fMRI data, concurrent TMS-EEG experiments, and computational modeling of behavior and neural dynamics. The Postdoctoral Fellows will be supported to develop their own research program at the intersection of the above topics. While the area of research is flexible, the Postdoctoral Fellows will be expected to contribute to on-going TMS-EEG experiments aimed at elucidating the link between brain criticality, working memory and cognitive control. The Department has a strong track record in supporting postdocs and junior investigators to successfully obtain competitive research funding including awards from the National Institutes of Health and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Perform neuroimaging data analyses, including both functional and structural MRI data and EEG data.
  • Conduct TMS-EEG experiments, preparing participants, removing sources of noise, administering TMS, and collecting and analyzing EEG data.
  • Take a lead role in communicating the results of neuroimaging studies through scientific journal articles and conference presentations.
  • Work with the research team to ensure conformance with the quality standards of the research lab.
  • Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments.
  • Assist with grant and IRB protocol preparation.
