Job Description
 

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Fritschi Lab at the University of Missouri (https://cafnrfaculty.missouri.edu/cropphysiology/ ) to investigate physiological mechanisms associated with plant adaptation to different environments, with a focus on limited water availability. The position is part of MU’s Research Excellence Program and the postdoctoral scholar will also receive specialized professional development training from the Office of Postdoctoral Education.

The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate on research projects aimed at characterizing and dissecting mechanisms of plant adaption to water deficit stress. The incumbent will build on existing genetic resources and physiological data and will be leading experiments on new high-throughput controlled environment phenotyping instrumentation and unique field facilities. The research will focus on plant water use efficiency and will link ecophysiological approaches with genetic and/or omics analyses. The incumbent will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, present results at professional meetings, and write manuscripts for publication in appropriate journals.  The incumbent will gain experience with collaborative research and will have opportunities to supervise and mentor undergraduate students.


Qualifications
 

Minimum Qualifications:  PhD in Plant Physiology, Biology, Ecology or related field by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:  Experience in ecophysiology. Experience in conducting research in field and controlled environments, the study of  physiological traits related to plant water status and water use efficiency, including measurements of plant hydraulic characteristics. Self-motivation, dedication, and experience in both independent research as well as work with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team. Strong data analytics, experimental design, and written and oral communication skills.
