Job Description

A Postdoctoral Researcher is sought for multiscale computational modeling of cementitious materials.  The position entails developing and testing a range of high-performance computer models, including writing C/C++ source code for parallel processing on clusters with MPI, analyzing and validating simulation data, and publishing the results in peer-reviewed journals. Applications include simulating the 3D microstructure development in cementitious materials with existing models THAMES and HydratiCA, especially modifying and testing those models. Applications can also include simulations of crystal dissolution and growth by kinetic Monte Carlo methods and discrete element simulations of granular packing and ballistic impact on granular media.

Responsibilities

  • Primary: Develop and validate computational materials science models of 3D microstructure development based on the geochemical thermodynamic speciation modeling, chemical kinetics, kinetic cellular automata, and kinetic Monte Carlo methods.
  • Primary: Use open-source discrete element models for simulating particle packing and ballistic impact on granular media.
  • Primary: Write and publish journal articles based on the results of completed studies related to the projects.
  • Primary: Assist with the development of grant proposals based on the findings of current projects.
  • Secondary: Mentor graduate students performing research on phase field models and computational fluid dynamics simulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education

  • Doctoral Degree

Required Experience

  • None

Preferred Experience

  • A strong background in computational materials science, including source code development and a background with materials thermodynamics and kinetics

All positions are security-sensitive. Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.
