Job Summary

In 2011, Professor Yury Gogotsi and colleagues discovered a new family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides, dubbed MXenes. The A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute (http://nano.materials.drexel.edu) is now a diverse team of almost 50 researchers investigating the types, qualities, and applications of MXenes. The group is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate who will work on developing new materials and explore the various applications of MXenes.

This position requires a strong experimentalist with demonstrated experience in nanomaterials synthesis and characterization. The selected candidate should have a background in chemistry, material sciences, or a related field.

Essential Functions

  • Research involving synthesis and chemical modification of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides (MXenes)
  • Write reports and manage research projects
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students
  • Present and write on scientific results internally and externally (work is frequently published in high-profile, peer-reviewed journals)
  • Be a motivated, self-starter, able to work independently
  • Participate creatively in refining program directions

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Materials Science, Chemistry, or closely related field
  • 2+ years working in a chemistry or materials lab

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good oral and written communication skills and be ability to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues
  • Good leadership
  • Synthesis experience
  • Experience with microscopy and spectroscopy techniques

  • Typically standing, walking
  • Lifting demands ≤ 25lbs
