Job Description:

Research
In collaboration with supervisor, conceive, design, and execute plant biology experiments focusing on plant metabolism and physiology in the laboratory and greenhouse. Experiments may involve plant growth measurements, metabolite analysis, physiology tests, molecular biology experiments, and tissue culture.
Maintain plant genetic materials by growing and harvesting plants regularly.
Modify methods and techniques from the literature to resolve current research problems or improve the results.
Assist and consult with students and other researchers to conduct metabolite analyses, design experiments, determine appropriate methods, and analyze the data.
Provide written reports of research and assist in the preparation of research papers and proposals.

Lab and Facilities Management
Manage the laboratory, including ordering supplies, keeping inventory of chemicals, and handling hazardous waste disposal
Handling EH&S surveys and inspections, monitoring and managing lab safety compliance
Maintain accurate laboratory records that record research methods, procedures, and results.
Maintain biological stocks, including cells, seeds, and DNA.
Provide routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment to maintain
good working condition at all times, and process repair orders from outside vendors when appropriate.
Maintain growth chambers and assigned growing area in the greenhouse

Personnel
Assist graduate students, postdoctoral associates, visiting scientists, undergraduate research assistants, and OPS in laboratory safety protocols, research procedures and equipment and instrument usage.
Assist with creating instructional materials, student kits, and training high school students in the summer training program.

Expected Salary:

$45,600

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.


Preferred

 



Doctoral degree in plant biology, biochemistry, or closely related field.
Experience in metabolite analysis using HPLC, next generation sequencing, plant tissue culture.
