Research Associate in Physics

Job Description

The Physics Department at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia, USA) is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral research scholar position. Our group’s main interests are in theoretical studies of the QCD next-generation characterization of the structure of nucleons and nuclei, including their 3D imaging, as it emerges from deeply virtual exclusive processes and high energy diffractive scattering experiments at the upgraded 12 GeV Jefferson Lab accelerator and the planned Electron-Ion Collider (EIC).

The successful candidate will work in the nuclear theory group, led by Professor Simonetta Liuti. We also have a new collaborative effort with a uniquely cross-disciplinary and diverse group of experts in the phenomenology of QCD, Lattice QCD and Machine Learning (ML). Our research group is poised to maximally capitalize on upcoming data to answer current critical questions in hadron physics. We offer a competitive stipend for this position.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate is expected to hold a PhD in Physics by the start date, to have a background in QCD and in the phenomenology of hadronic physics, as well as a strong commitment to pursuing forefront theoretical and computational research.
