Position Overview
This position will work with Dr. Mirkouei and other researchers in the Renewable and Sustainable Manufacturing Laboratory (RSML). RSML is looking for a postdoctoral researcher. The successful applicant will have knowledge about different processes, especially multiphase flow with chemical reactions. Applications include biochemical processes for ore deposits treatment and wastes recycling, thermochemical reactors, and renewable materials production processes (e.g., pyrolysis, bioleaching, ultrasound cavitation, and additive manufacturing processes). Proficiency with computational fluid dynamics and thermal analysis, CAD modeling, and visualization software is highly desirable. Experience with optimization, verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification is also sought. Computational models will be developed to describe physical processes involving interdisciplinary skills and concepts, including chemistry, manufacturing, materials science, biological science, and chemical engineering.

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Experience working independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Experience programming using Python, MATLAB, R, or C++
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence experience
  • Experience with high-performance computing systems, e.g., software execution and visualization
  • Experience publishing archival journal articles and peer-reviewed conference proceedings
  • Editing and writing documents using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials
Required Education
  • PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, Industrial engineering, or materials science

Required Other
  • Travel and attend conferences as required

Additional Preferred
  • Two years working in research labs
  • Knowledge of thermochemical or biochemical processes
  • Experience in or interest in developing research proposals
  • Ability to independently solve problems and perform complicated tasks
  • Knowledge about different processes, especially multiphase flow with chemical reactions.
  • Ability to propose innovative new ideas and successfully deliver tangible results
  • Strong oral and published written communication skills in English
  • Ability to understand and model complex physicochemical phenomena efficiently
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • The person should be able to occasionally carry, lift and/or otherwise move materials up to 50lbs
