Job Description


The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia – School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding post-doctoral research associate. This is a training position in the lab of Dr. Mariano Garcia-Blanco whose work focuses on RNA biology.

The Garcia-Blanco Lab was recently awarded funding from a biotechnology industrial partner to evaluate alternative splicing as a technology to promote tissue-specific or cell type-specific expression in gene therapy. This project will leverage post-transcriptional gene regulation, specifically tissue-specific mRNA splicing and intron-retention, as a way to enhance cell-type specific expression of transgenes.

The candidate along with other members of the Garcia-Blanco Lab will design and perform cell-based screening of libraries of sequences to identify the optimal candidates and configurations of alternative splicing cassettes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
