Postdoctoral Research Associate

Job Description


The Department of Pharmacology at UVA School of Medicine seeks a research associate (postdoctoral fellow). The research associate is expected to investigate the physiological significance and underlying molecular mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated protein degradation (ERAD) machinery in the regulation of liver and intestine homeostasis.

Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree, preferably a PhD in biomedical sciences by the appointment start date.  The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and career oriented with a demonstrated publication rack record. A strong background in related fields such as cell biology, physiology or biochemistry is preferred. Experience in mouse work and models is a plus.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Under the direction of the principal investigator, perform laboratory-based research such as molecular, physiology and cellular experiments.
  • Breed genetically engineered animal models and perform animal experiments.
  • Collect and log laboratory results. Evaluate and perform data analysis. Proofread and edit research data and documents to ensure accuracy.
  • Follow research literatures, write research manuscripts and report results at scientific conferences and meetings
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Postdoctoral employment is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a doctoral degree within the previous five years. This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal (for an additional two, one-year increments) contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.  A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
