Position Summary

Victoria College's Athletics Department is recruiting for an Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach.  This position is responsible for assisting in the management of the Victoria College Athletics team consistent with institutional, regional, and NJCAA regulations. Typical duties will include supporting the Head Coach with practices, game coaching, supervision of student-athletes; transporting athletes to and from contests; perform other duties as assigned. Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assists the Head Coach in planning, directing, and coaching intercollegiate sports; develops student-athletes full potential while being competitive and ethically run; ensure NJCAA rules and regulation compliance.
  2. Provides quality coaching and instruction to students participating in the program; develops, implements, and teaches related program curriculum as assigned.  
  3. Assists Head Coach with oversight of student-athletes conduct, assists with conflict resolution, development of personal interpersonal relationships including campus integration with other students and faculty.
  4. Assists with the recruitment of student-athletes; supports student-athletes in identifying individual, team, and academic goals.
  5. Support the maintenance and retention of team equipment.
  6. Share the responsibility of transporting student-athletes to and from athletic contests.
  7. Attends college, department, and division meeting as required.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Prior college coaching experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in coaching and/or competing in respective sport. 
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain with one year.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured to drive college vehicles required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving student
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of conference and NJCAA rules, policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks to completion.
  • Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation within the college and community.
  • Ability to effectively supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public.
  • Strong personal work ethic and high level of personal integrity.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Knowledge of recruiting process and have experience recruiting talent for designated NJCAA sport team.
  • Ability to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to perform normal duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as be a team player.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills with faculty, staff, students and community.
  • Background in physical education, athletics or kinesiology preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand, walk, push and pull. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 -50 pounds while setting up tables, chairs and gym equipment. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and some color vision. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
