Position Summary
The Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology serves the children of North Carolina in the diagnosis and treatment of known or suspected immune deficiencies and allergic diseases, including food and environmental allergies. Within the Division, the Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) is dedicated to the study of food allergy, including clinical trials of novel treatments, animal models, cohorts studies, and epidemiological studies of food allergy, in addition to providing education to clinical and research fellows, residents, medical students and the community.
Food allergies are a prevalent and potentially life-threatening condition affecting 8-10% of children and adults in the U.S, with limited diagnostic testing and no curative therapies. Very little has been studied about the relationship between food allergy or sensitization to foods and other chronic medical conditions. Our preliminary data suggest that food sensitization may be a novel risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
The laboratory of Dr. Corinne Keet is seeking a post-doctoral research associate to participate in NIH-funded research on the epidemiology of food allergy and how food allergy and sensitization may be associated with cardiovascular disease. We are seeking a recent or prospective doctoral graduate (Ph.D. or equivalent qualification) with a background in epidemiology or biostatistics. Ideally, candidates would have a background in either the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases or allergic diseases. The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Keet, her collaborators at UNC and other institutions, and other investigators in the Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) on studies using national surveys, claims data, medical record data, and cohort studies. There are also opportunities for analysis of genetic data. The goals of this position are to support the training, career development, and professional growth of the post-doctoral fellow by fostering skills and knowledge in epidemiology. The post-doctoral fellow will participate with mentors, other faculty, and peers in the FAI in authoring publications, making presentations at scientific and/or professional meetings, and developing grant support. Responsibilities of the post-doctoral fellow are to work towards enhancing their substantive and methodological skills in the epidemiology of food allergy and/or related conditions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
