The Applied Physics and Superconducting Technology Directorate seeks a motivated postdoctoral Research Associate to join the SRF Performance Frontier group. The successful candidate will lead R&D efforts on the performance improvement of superconducting radio-frequency cavities. They will pursue novel processing techniques of bulk niobium as well as deposition of various thin films on top of metallic substrates for high energy particle accelerating applications. The individual will couple materials science, SRF testing, and RF engineering to aid in the development of these treatments and processes. The position is for a period of up to three (3) years, with the potential for extension considered on a yearly basis thereafter, and subject to continued funding. You Will: • Develop novel processing techniques for bulk Nb SRF cavities • Lead efforts toward thin film particle accelerating technology • Perform RF characterization and testing • Carry out basic materials characterization • Attend related technical conferences and workshops • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals We Are Looking For: • PhD in Physics, Accelerator Physics, Materials Science, or other related field • Experience with SRF cavity testing is strongly preferred • Knowledge of cavity processing and assembly is preferred • Expertise with materials science techniques is preferred, including ToF-SIMS and XPS • Excellent oral and communication skills Application Instructions: Candidates should submit via Academic Jobs Online https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/25130 • Curriculum Vitae with a list of selected publications • Research Statement • Cover letter • Three reference letters For general information about this position, please contact Daniel Bafia at dbafia@fnal.gov. |
