Position Title: Government Affairs Advocate
Location: Washington, D.C. based Remote
Reports to: Deputy Campaigns Director
Hours Per Week: Full-Time
 

Position Summary
Evergreen seeks a full-time Government Affairs Advocate to help design and implement our Congressional and Administrative advocacy. This position will implement Evergreen's engagement with Capitol Hill and the Administration in support of our bold policy vision.
 

Evergreen’s federal advocacy work currently falls under three key objectives: 1) ensuring expeditious, effective, and equitable implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act; 2) pushing the Biden Administration to go further, faster with aggressive executive actions that achieve our climate goals; 3) Defending climate action in Congress. This role in particular will have a focus on achieving and defending climate wins in the 2023 Farm Bill, as well as highlighting the importance of climate-smart agricultural investments passed via the Inflation Reduction Act, in addition to other responsibilities.
 

This person will be responsible for growing Evergreen’s reach and influence on Capitol Hill and within the administration. This is done by building and maintaining critical relationships, keeping policymakers up-to-date on Evergreen’s work, establishing ourselves as key climate experts, and advocating for policies that support our bold vision of a climate-just world.
 

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of government, experience advocating in support of climate legislation, policy research, and analytical capabilities; a deep understanding of climate policy and at least 3 years of experience working on federal climate policy or politics, ideally including experience working on the Hill. This role is based in Washington, D.C.
 

What You Will Do

 

    • Engage with Capitol Hill and the administration

 

    • Develop and manage Evergreen’s strategic engagement and relationships with congressional staff and staff in the administration.

 

    • Design and execute outreach plans to advocate for bold climate policies and ensure Evergreen’s policy, digital and communications products get in front of key decision-makers to help shape their agendas.

 

    • Draft and execute policy content in collaboration with other Evergreen teams.

 

    • Work with the Evergreen team and our partners

 

    • Help design and coordinate advocacy campaign plans across our policy, digital, and communications teams.

 

    • Keep the team up-to-date on important action on Capitol Hill and from the administration.

 

  • Work alongside allied organizations to shape federal legislative and regulatory policy advocacy

 


First-Year Milestones

 

    • In your first 90 days you will have….

 

    • Drafted and sent your own “blast” emails to congressional staff using the Quorum software system.

 

    • Gained an understanding of Evergreen’s mission, values, voice and policy priorities.

 

    • Caught up on Evergreen legislative priorities including the 2023 Farm Bill state of play; gained an understanding of the partner landscape, and built relationships with key allies.

 

    • Familiarized yourself with the climate-related programs within the Farm Bill and the coalitions of allied organizations working to defend them

 

    • In 6 months you will have…

 

    • Led meetings with Hill and agency staff showcasing our work and advocating for policy priorities.

 

    • Pitched new ideas & opportunities to expand our reach and influence on Capitol Hill and within the administration.

 

    • Created and began to execute advocacy plan across Evergreen teams to advocate for climate wins including in the 2023 Farm Bill, as well as to highlight the climate benefits of climate-smart programs contained within it.

 

    • In 1 year you will have…

 

    • Designed and executed the rollouts of several policy, digital, and communications products to Capitol Hill and the administration.

 

  • Designed and led advocacy plans for several Evergreen campaigns across teams, which includes leading internal team meetings, collaborating with our partners, and project management.

 


What You Bring

 

    • 3+ Years experience working in government, a non-profit, or campaign, or on Capitol Hill setting is highly preferred, ideally with experience working on the Farm Bill or climate-smart agricultural policies

 

    • Excellent research and writing skills and demonstrated experience in climate-focused policy and legislation

 

    • Demonstrated understanding of climate policy and the advocacy landscape

 

    • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team, under tight deadlines

 

    • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and see them through to completion

 

    • Ability to work well with partner organizations to advance shared policy goals

 

  • Politically and strategically aligned with Evergreen’s mission and values

 


Compensation and Benefits
 

Salary: $90,000 - 95,000
