Delaware County Community College, located in the heart of Delaware County, is looking for a higher motivated Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, who will report directly to the President.

The Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CDIO) will provide vision and leadership in promoting an institutional culture that values and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion at Delaware County Community College. The CDIO will serve as the champion for the College’s overall diversity and inclusion agenda, but will work closely with the College’s Senior Leadership Team, faculty, staff, and students to develop and facilitate strategies, decision-making, priority-setting, and actions necessary to advance diversity and inclusion at all levels within the College.

The CDIO will be responsible for working with relevant stakeholders to develop/implement effective diversity policies/practices including, but not limited to, practices that will result in the increased recruitment, retention, and advancement of diverse faculty, staff, and students. The CDIO will also develop and roll out campus programming that cultivates a welcoming and inclusive College community. The CDIO will also serve as the principle institutional official responsible for coordinating compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA), American with Disabilities Act/Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (ADA), and federal and state anti-discrimination laws. The CDIO will report to the President and will serve as a member of the College’s Senior Leadership Team.

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to: -

  • Collaborates with Human Resources (HR) and academic and administrative departments to create diversity recruitment and retention plans for faculty, administrators, and staff that address advertising, networking, recruitment, outreach activities, and other techniques for increasing the recruitment and retention of diverse qualified candidates;
  • Leads in the development and implementation of a College-wide strategic plan for diversity and inclusion;
  • Collaborates with Student Affairs in maintaining and enhancing a welcoming campus environment for all students;
  • Researches, develops, and delivers education and training programs on diversity and inclusion, including bias, sensitivity, and cultural competency; coordinates these activities in partnership with HR, Academic and Student Affairs;
  • Consults with Student Affairs to develop student facing diversity related programming
  • Oversees the Institutional Diversity Committee, and acts as a liaison with various caucuses on campus that represent constituents from diverse backgrounds;
  • Proposes and/or develops employee programming, including employee development programs that help to cultivate and retain future leaders from diverse backgrounds;
  • Collaborates with Institutional Research (IR) to identify instruments, including valid and reliable surveys for ongoing assessment of diversity and inclusion data and initiatives, and partner with IR in the analysis of data from such instruments;
  • Works with HR and Disability Services to ensure appropriate access and accommodations for students and staff with disabilities;
  • Identifies and implements proven strategies for increasing College-wide engagement in diversity and inclusion;
  • Develops, strengthens, and maintains community partnerships with external constituents in the community in support of diversity and inclusion;
  • Conducts periodic reviews to measure success of diversity and inclusion programs and activities; report findings to the President, the President’s Cabinet, Senior Leadership, and the campus community;
  • Remains professionally active in applicable higher education organizations such as the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC);
  • Serves as the institutions designated Title IX Coordinator and Section 504 Coordinator as defined by the Department of Education;
  • Works with the deputy Title IX coordinators to ensure that appropriate policies and protocols for identifying, preventing, and remediating complaints are in place;
  • Ensures that all Title IX investigations are completed in a thorough and timely manner
  • Works with stakeholders in HR and Student Affairs to ensure that appropriate training on Title IX is deployed on a regular basis;
  • Remains current on laws, regulations, trends, and best practices that relate to diversity, equity, inclusion, Title IX, and related topics; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate must have: -

  • Master’s degree required. Terminal Degree strongly preferred;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in leading diversity and inclusion, and/or equity and multicultural affairs initiatives, preferably within higher education;
  • Proven experience working in the area(s) of diversity and inclusion in a complex organizational environment;
  • Proven track record of success in developing, implementing, and assessing diversity and inclusion strategies and practices;
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to provide oversight for assessments related to campus climate, diversity, and inclusion;
  • Proven track record of engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders and a commitment to working collaboratively with all members of the organization to craft a shared vision and direction. Must be able to coach, mentor, and inspire colleagues;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, human relations, and team building skills
  • Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and the broader community;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience employing mediation and/or conflict resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret applicable local, state and federal laws/regulations relating to unlawful harassment, discrimination, sexual violence, ADA, affirmative action, Title IX, and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act.
