Position Summary
The Research Professional Electrophysiologist will participate in a research program at the Marisco Lung Institute to study ion channels and viroporins for development of therapeutic approaches.
This position requires training in electrophysiology and cell biology and experience in primary cell culture and maintenance. Experiments conducted will involve patch clamping of mammalian cells, two-electrode voltage-clamp of oocytes, and measurement of cells cultures and tissues in Ussing chambers.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Our ideal candidate possesses great attention to detail, as well as excellent communication, and organizational skills. Other required qualifications include:
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Understanding of basic concepts related to electrophysiology and cell biology.
* Understanding of ion transport-related lung pathophysiology.
* Grant writing experience.
* Knowledge and practice of electrophysiology and optimization of techniques for different applications.
* Understanding of cell physiology and regulation of cellular events.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
* Ph.D. in biological sciences, physiology, cell biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related field.
* At least 5 years of postdoctoral experience.
* Training in electrophysiology and cell biology.
* Experience in primary cell culture and maintenance.
* Experience in a patch clamping of mammalian cells.
* Experience in two-electrode voltage-clamp of oocytes.
* Experience in Ussing chamber measurements.
* Expertise in epithelial ion channel regulation.
* Expertise in physiology and maintenance of primary cell culture.
* Knowledge on epithelial ion channel regulation and viroporin function.
* Knowledge of mode of action of drugs that act on epithelial ion channels.
* Experience with fluorescence microscopy and cell-based assays.
* Experience with protein expression and analysis by western blotting.
* Experience with Ussing chamber analysis.
* Experience with Acquire & Analyze Software, Origin, Microsoft office, GraphPad Prism, and other graphic software.
* Excellent analytical, troubleshooting and writing skills.
* Experience in drug development.
