| Department Summary | The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation has over 1,300 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students (MS and PhD) across several specializations including sport and exercise psychology, exercise physiology, and sport pedagogy & motor behavior; PhD students are trained through collaborative programs with other UNT departments. Research facilities include the Pediatric Movement and Physical Activity Laboratory, Sport and Exercise Psychophysiology Laboratory, Behavioral Neuroscience Research Laboratory, Sport Physical Activity and Health Laboratory, Applied Physiology Laboratory, Physical Activity and Psychomotor Learning Laboratory, and Integrated Metabolism and Disease Prevention Laboratory. The facilities and equipment are available for shared use by the successful candidate. The following video highlights the capabilities of our laboratories for current and future research. | Position Summary | The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation (KHPR) invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month Post-Doctoral Associate in Physical Activity, Nutrition & Early Childhood and Project Coordinator for the Head Start to Healthy Lifestyles (HSHL) grant project, supported by the United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Department of Health & Human Services. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development and success of the department through program coordination, research, and outreach. Candidates from underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply. The post-doctoral associate and program coordinator hired for this position is expected to demonstrate a record of program coordination, scholarly research in the field of Physical Activity and Early Childhood or Nutrition as indicated by publications in quality journal outlets, professional presentations, and efforts to receive external funding. As a project coordinator, he/she will be directly responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the HSHL project. Duties may include: · Conducting training sessions and project activities with Head Start center administrators, teachers, and parents; · Monitoring the physical activity intervention; · Managing administrative tasks, timelines, and record-keeping associated with implementing and maintaining the HSHL project; and · Collaborating, complementing, and expanding ongoing research efforts within the department and partnering organizations and addressing health disparities in underserved populations. |
| Minimum Qualifications | · PhD (or equivalent) in Physical Activity and Early Childhood or Nutrition or related field (e.g., exercise science, public health, psychology, etc.) at time of appointment. · Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective plans, programs, policies, and practices related to early childhood and family physical activity and nutrition programs. · Evidence of program management experiences and skills such as leading, coordinating, and overseeing activities of participant recruitment and consenting, orientation, and compliance, as well as budgeting, and evaluating program outcomes. · Focused and active research agenda as evidenced by publications in high quality journal outlets and potential for extramural funding. · Demonstrated commitment to working with young children and families from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds as well as other underserved populations. · Excellent interpersonal skills and shown ability to lead and work creatively with numerous stakeholders and being detailed oriented. |
| Preferred Qualifications | · Research focusing on young children’s physical activity and nutrition as well as parental impact in underrepresented and/or diverse populations. · Professional experience working with program/project management, diverse young children and families, and health and human service agencies such as Head Start. · Experience working with a SNAP-Ed program, Education Administration Reporting System (EARS), and Program Evaluation and Reporting System (PEARS) |
