Introduction 
The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Post-Doctoral researcher to work in Miami, Florida. The position, based at NOAA/AOML, is supported by a project funded to advance data assimilation (DA) for coupled hurricane-ocean forecasting. 
Department Specific Functions 
Duties include but are not limited to:
?    Improve ocean DA using JEDI-SOCA.
?    Perform data assimilation experiment, including testing co-located Saildrone-Glider observations, with coupled hurricane analysis and forecast system (HAFS).
?    Collaborate with internal and external partners of NOAA/AOML.
?    Present findings in scientific meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
?    Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications 
?    Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in physical oceanography, meteorology, fluid dynamics, applied mathematics or a related field.
?    Demonstrated experience with data assimilation, running ocean model, and application of machine learning are highly preferred.
?    Necessary skills include experience with numerical modeling, and strong organizational, technical and interpersonal skills.
?    Working knowledge of FORTRAN, Python and C++; experience working in parallel computing and high-performance computing environments are desirable.
?    Due to requirements related to our work, qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and be able to obtain and maintain NOAA security clearance.
?    The applicants must have a proven publication record, scientific writing skills, and communication skills, 
?    Independent, initiative, self motivated, and also a team player.
