Job Description:

The Westchester Community College Mount Vernon Extension Center seeks an incumbent to perform a wide variety of tasks in providing customer service for students (entering forms, processing payments, helping students to register for classes, etc.), clerical and faculty support, and front office reception, to include answering telephone calls and assisting customers with inquiries regarding college business.  The incumbent acts as an Office Assistant for a number of administrative and/or professional staff.  Independent action is exercised when routine procedures or clearly defined policies are involved.  The Office Assistant will expedite related work, as required.


Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of experience where a primary function of the position was performing general office/clerical work, two years of which must have included the use of computer applications to maintain automated records or produce correspondence, spreadsheets, forms, reports or other documents.  The successful candidate must be customer-service oriented and have the ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.  Excellent oral and written communication skills required.  This position also requires a full range of keyboarding skills in Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft systems.  When operating word processing equipment, the incumbent is expected to maximize equipment capability in compiling correspondence, records, reports statistical information for various reports; setting up and maintaining automated records and filing systems, and in compiling information for management needs.  A high degree of initiative and independent action is required to ensure the timely and accurate processing of the workflow. 

Additional Information:

The hourly rate of pay is $12.60 per hour.  No benefits.
