The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries seeks an innovative Learning Resources Librarian at assistant librarian rank to work in the John C. Hitt Library on the UCF Main Campus in Orlando, Florida.  The assistant librarian will work collaboratively with teaching faculty and other librarians to provide students and instructors with seamless access to the library collections and course readings.

The Learning Resources Librarian will report to the head of the Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Department, one of three departments under the Division of Collection Services and Resource Management (CSRM). The position will be an integral part of library collection services for all UCF Libraries locations in the Ex Libris Integrated Library Systems (ILS) Alma/Primo VE.  UCF Libraries is part of FLVC, the forty-member statewide consortium, and is an institutional partner with the Affordable Instructional Materials (AIM) campus initiative which has saved students over $5.9 million using library-sourced resources.  

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities are to implement and administer the new Ex Libris Leganto system, liaise with teaching faculty and instructional designers to integrate library-sourced instructional materials into Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMS), and other course settings. The Learning Resources Librarian will: design workflows to implement Leganto with Alma; plan service enhancements; train instructors/teaching faculty; resolve access and/or configuration problems for the library-sourced materials ensuring fair use compliance; manage and update communications on Leganto; and conduct in-house workshops for library employees as needed. The successful candidate must be an adaptive learner and have extensive knowledge on copyright law and digital rights management (DRM) and communicate those guidelines effectively to the campus community. This position is expected to be highly collaborative with the Academic Engagement librarians such as the Textbook Affordability Librarian and the subject liaisons, as well as engage with the teaching faculty and campus partners, such as Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) and UCF Digital Learning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution. 
  • Library experience in at least one of the following areas:  electronic reserves, acquisitions, electronic resources, or document delivery in an integrated library system (ILS).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo VE ILS;
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving and project management;
  • Strong user service orientation;
  • Understanding of license terms and digital rights management (DRM), copyright, and fair use of library electronic resources;
  • Experience developing and delivering effective training for faculty and librarian colleagues
  • Experience in Leganto;
  • Experience using LMS, LTIs, and APIs;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
