Associate Director, Community Programs

Job Description

 

The Associate Director, Community Programs supports community events and programs aimed at generating philanthropic support for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and the child health programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The primary function is to lead the execution of the Foundation’s first-ever Grateful Patient Pipeline Program – providing patients and families who are currently receiving or who have formerly received treatment at the Hospital the opportunity to philanthropically support the Hospital. This role will also oversee the development of a volunteer program in conjunction with Hospital and Foundation leadership. Additionally, this role will maintain a portfolio of Honor/Memorial community fundraisers and offer leadership support to the annual Summer Scamper 5k and kids’ fun run.

The Community Fundraising team operates on a hybrid model. The Associate Director is eligible for hybrid work, meaning they are working in the office or in person whenever needed and on average of eight days a month. Note, the Foundation has a mandatory Covid-19 Vaccination Policy, and all new employees must submit proof of their Covid-19 vaccination and booster vaccine at the time their employment commences. Alternatively, prior to commencing employment, new employees may request approval for accommodation for an exemption to the policy as permitted by law.

 

 

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Champions for Children

  • Manage a portfolio of Champions, including events and campaigns, partnership events, and honorarium/memorial fundraisers.
  • This portfolio will focus on Champions hosting fundraisers in honor or in memory of loved ones.
  • Is responsible for creating and executing an annual plan to effectively steward, renew, and upgrade current donors at the $1,000-$50,000 levels.
  • Works closely with the Associate Vice President for Annual Giving and Director of Community Fundraising to develop effective solicitation strategies for high-end fundraisers ($1,000-$50,000).
  • The Associate Director is expected to maintain a high degree of sensitivity in their work with bereaved families.
  • Provide guidance and support to Champions to ensure success for each event or campaign, including application process, logistical support, marketing, etc.
  • Steward Champions through acknowledgement letters, participant certificates, thank you notes; develop new and unique stewardship opportunities as appropriate.
  • Represent the hospital at community events, giving speeches tailored to various audiences when appropriate; coordinate hospital tours and check presentations.
  • Oversee program development for the overall Champions program, including strategies for recruitment, cultivation, stewardship, and retention.
  • Oversee development of overall Champions program website and collateral and develop a strategy for optimal utilization.
  • Work with Foundation field staff to manage dual-assigned Champions.
  • Work with various Foundation departments to ensure all Champions fundraising events align with the Hospital and Foundation policies and guidelines.
  • Work with Advancement Services team to effectively process Champion gifts.
  • Work with the Development Communications team to maintain the Champions website, online fundraising pages, and provide digital support; to leverage Champions events as a tool to promote philanthropy and the hospital through blog posts, social media, and new opportunities.
  • Work with Child Life and other hospital teams to facilitate donations and special events.
  • Track and maintain all data and reporting for program; provide director with quarterly progress reports.

Grateful Patient Pipeline

  • Develop and implement at Grateful Patient Pipeline in partnership with Hospital Care Team Members.
  • Initiate program with Foundation’s key fundraising campaign areas – Cancer, NICU, and the Heart Center.
  • Develop intake form for all patients and families to complete upon demonstrating interest in philanthropy.
  • Educate Hospital Care Team Members on the Foundation and Community Fundraising programs; answer questions to equip Care Team Members to confidently hand off patients interested in learning more about philanthropy.
  • Maintain a high degree of sensitivity and emotional maturity in working with patients undergoing treatment and recently bereaved families.
  • Work with patients and families to unlock their philanthropic potential and interests.
  • Collaborate with Foundation staff to hand off patients to appropriate Development and Communications staff where appropriate (i.e. Principal and Major Gifts Team, Patient Hero Program).

Volunteer Program

  • Collaborate with Hospital and Foundation leadership to relaunch a program of Special Events available to highly rated prospects and donors.
  • Develop mission-engaging opportunities to increase affinity amongst key stakeholder groups with the goal of increasing their philanthropy.
  • Work with Hospital Leadership and Care Team Members to ensure all health, safety and HIPAA measures are met and implemented appropriately.
  • Educate Foundation leaders on volunteer program and how opportunities can be implemented for highly rated prospects and donors.
  • Collaborate with Child Life to make volunteer programs come to life for donors and patients.
  • Oversee Gift In Kind Care Kit Program:
    • Collaborate with key hospital programs on Care Kit needs.
    • Ensure Foundation website it up to date with Care Kit opportunities and instructions for community members to engage.
    • Oversee community member participation and ensure system is functionally productively and meeting needs of Hospital departments.

Summer Scamper

  • Assist with overall production and execution of Summer Scamper, as needed.
  • Steward racers with regards to fundraising techniques and toolkits.
  • Provide guidance and support to Scamper Race Director to optimize fundraising and ensure Scamper is in line with the Foundation’s mission.

Management and Leadership

  • Establish goals for direct reports and Community Fundraising program; conduct regular evaluations and progress toward achieving goals.
  • Participate in Foundation sponsored management training opportunities and seek out outside opportunities.
  • Model our Foundation’s Core Values at all times.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Maintain knowledge of hospital programs to effectively communicate with supporters about their area of interest.
  • Work cooperatively and strategically with all relevant internal teams to ensure the success of events and to bolster our fundraising efforts.
  • On-site management of event portfolio and other department events as needed, including the Summer Scamper and Champions holiday toy drives.
  • Function as a member of a team by accepting additional responsibilities and assisting others as necessary.
  • Recommend new approaches, procedures, and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of department and services performed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Assist Children’s Fund team with prospecting and stewardship events on an as needed basis. Recommends new approaches, procedures and processes to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
