The Rajan Lab in the Basic Sciences Division is looking for a reliable, organized, detail-oriented individual, to support ongoing exciting research on diabetes and obesity. This is ideal for an individual who is interested in a full-time role that prepares them for a research career with introduction to a research lab environment and has an interest in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry. It is well-suited to individuals who have just graduated and are for a research technician career.
For this full-time role at 40hrs/week, depending on performance and fit with the lab there will be an option to increase responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Under the close supervision of a staff scientist, our Research Tech:
- Assists with regular maintenance of the lab’s Drosophila melanogaster strains.
- Performs routine bench experiments in molecular biology- DNA, RNA and protein work.
- Maintains the spreadsheet for the lab’s stock collection, under supervision.
- Prepares media and reagents, such as stock solutions.
- Assists with routine research tasks, including mammalian tissue culture work.
Qualifications:
Required:
- BA/BS in a scientific field required.
- Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills.
- Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is usually necessary.
- Clear communication skills, responsiveness and professionalism with a Team-oriented and collaborative outlook.
- High organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with one of the following is desirable: Drosophila work, Mammalian Cell culture, cloning, western blotting, imaging and dissections.
- Completion of an undergraduate degree in biology is preferred.
