Position Summary

As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will be involved in the development of novel molecules in addition to clinical translation of lead agents for biomedical imaging. Specifically relevant to current position, you will design and develop small organic molecules amenable to incorporation with carbon-11 or fluorine-18 for use in PET neuroimaging. You will also be involved in translating new molecular imaging probes into human research. You will be a valuable member of the team and get experience in all stages of PET radiotracer development from PET radiotracer design to preclinical and clinical evaluation to data interpretation. You will get experience working with both academic and industry collaborators. You will also get experience communicating with regulatory authorities such as the FDA.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop new methods to radiolabel small molecules with carbon-11 or fluorine-18.
  • Adapt radiolabeling of small molecules on automated synthesis units (e.g., Tracerlab FX2N, FXPro, FXM).
  • Perform preclinical or cGMP compliant production of radiotracers using automated radiosynthesis platforms for preclinical and clinical use.
  • Develop chromatographic methods to analyze, characterize and purify radiolabeled compounds (HPLC, TLC) and analyze produced radiotracers.
  • Develop formulations suitable for use in preclinical and clinical studies.
  • Analyze blood samples for radioactive metabolites.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records.
  • Compose and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyze and  summarize data for publications.
  • Assist in writing Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) documents for regulatory submissions (RDRC and/or IND).
  • Assist in establishing both new and maintain current collaborations with both internal and external academic and/or industrial collaborators.
  • Assist in grant application preparations.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in chemistry or related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in radiochemistry is highly preferred, especially with C11 or F18.
  • Experience in organic and analytical chemistry is highly preferred.
  • Experience in medicinal chemistry.
  • Experience with organofluorine chemistry is advantageous.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and troubleshoot problems.

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
