POSITION SUMMARY: This position provides direction and support for staff and children at our multiple school age program sites. They will guide the planning of curriculum philosophy, implementation and design of the school age program that meets the program goals and state licensing requirements. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging for youth while developing relationships with the youth and their families. They will support the staff’s professional development and ensure proper staffing ratios and break coverage. The Program Supervisor will report directly to the program director and act as such to support vacation or other absences of the program director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain daily staff scheduling including but not limited to securing substitutes, communicating with staff, and working open shifts. Monitor substitute requests and follow up with employees as needed. Responsible for covering sites if staff are out/subs are not available.
  • Provide supervision, evaluation and performance coaching of site staff and volunteers.
  • Support staff professional development to include serving as a mentor and providing in-service training to staff and parents under guidance from the program director.
  • Support program director by performing site observations as required.
  • Provide written and oral reports; maintain communication systems with parents, schools, and the YMCA.
  • Guides the planning of curriculum philosophy, implementation, and environmental design of the school age learning programs that meets Y standards and DCYF licensing requirements.
  • Ensure that program curriculum is followed, and the materials needed are available under guidance from the program director.
  • Work in collaboration with community partners to better serve children and families.
  • Treat children with dignity and respect. Implement and reinforce positive behavior management techniques, help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • Assist children to be self-reliant and to relate to others in a positive manner.
  • Guiding and modeling for children appropriately in the areas of communication and personal hygiene.
  • Maintain a professional attitude.
  • Attend all staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Support Y community events.
  • Keeping accurate attendance records, logs and other documentation required.
  • Assist the program director with administrative duties which include: communication and registration activities, leading family tours, supporting payroll tasks and other tasks as needed.
Qualifications & Benefits

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • AA in Education or related field preferred: Must have completed 12 college credits in any one hundred-level or above coursework. Further education is required within five years of the time of hire or promotion.
  • Two years’ experience supervising others, preferred
  • Personal transportation is required
  • Must have child development knowledge and a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children 5 to 12 years of age.
  • Complete Child Care Basics (CCB) and DCYF Health and Safety training or equivalent within 3 months of hire and before being unsupervised with children.
  • Must register with the electronic workforce registry (MERIT) and obtain STARS number.
  • Apply for Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable background check prior to start and have clearance before being unsupervised.
  • Negative TB test, MMR vaccination and COVID vaccination verification prior to start.
  • Must be able to obtain HIV/AIDS/BBP awareness and Food Handlers card upon hire.
  • Must have a valid First Aid, and Pediatric CPR certification within 1 month of hire.
  • 10 hours of annual in-service training after 12 months of employment required.
  • Complete Y orientation and Y Leader training within Skagit Valley YMCA timeframe.
  • Highly developed organization and prioritization and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Word, Excel and computer knowledge preferred.
