Summary

The Visitor Services (VS) Assistant supports The Museum of Flight as usually the first point of contact for our visitors, providing Museum amenities and a great visitor experience. This position’s duties include greeting visitors upon their arrival, providing venue and related information, and selling Museum experiences including admission tickets, additional add-on activities such as tours, memberships, and more. This role is present and engaging with visitors in a variety of areas throughout our expansive campus, both indoors and out. Beyond the admissions desk, they staff areas such our Aviation Pavilion, galleries, simulators, special exhibit areas, and private events. It is essential VS Assistants are at ease with the public and reflect the Museum’s mission and vision to our diverse clientele.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide a friendly and informative visitor experience; greeting guests, selling tickets and other services, and providing venue information to all visitors throughout their time at the Museum.
  • Work to be informed and familiar in regard to daily Museum events, special presentations, membership levels, audio guides, simulators, and other Museum add-on experiences offerings to be an effective salesperson.
  • Be familiar with the Museum campus and assigned work area, ensuring you have up-to-date knowledge to provide accurate information, safety and accessibility, and the best customer service possible.
  • Provide guidance and function as a point of contact to visitors and volunteers, when applicable. Assist in insuring visitor compliance with Museum policy and protection of artifacts.
  • Ring in sales and perform cash handling with a high level of accuracy.
  • When working at the Flight Simulators, Virtual Reality, and other tactile experiences, demonstrate a thorough knowledge and adhere to all operational and safety guidelines including flight control instructions and emergency procedures.
  • Assist department leadership team with daily procedures as directed; may include activating registers, balancing cash drawers, preparing deposits, and the opening and closing of accessible aircraft.
  • Keep work area clean, orderly, stocked, and safe. Report any issues of operations or safety to supervisor or other museum leadership in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) months working or volunteering in a highly customer-oriented service environment required, one (1) year preferred.
  • Experience in a Museum, theme park, or other large crowd customer service setting is highly preferred.

 

 

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated knowledge in using computers and handling cash.

 

 

Skills

  • Demonstrated communication skills including professional phone/radio etiquette skills.

 

 

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability in working with a diverse population.
  • Good attention to detail is required.
  • Courteous and friendly demeanor; demonstrated experience directing and assisting guests.

  • The schedule for this position will be determined by the Supervisor.
  • Requires a flexible work week with the availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • No travel is expected for this position.

 

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Ability to move through physical Museum campus spaces is required including outdoors in variable weather.
  • Must be able to properly lift up to 50 pounds without assistance, including assisting persons in and out of simulators and opening and closing aircraft.
  • This position requires repetitive wrist and arm movement associated with cashiering.
  • The ability to bend, carry, reach to the side, front and overhead, push, pull, focus, walk, stand, twist and squat are frequent requirements for this position.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods including some stairs within the duration of a shift.
  • Onsite attendance is essential to perform the duties of this position.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $18.75 - $19.85 per hour depending on experience.
