Summary/Objective:

The Volunteer Manager is an exempt position that reports to the Chief Development Officer and supervises Volunteer Department staff and Interns. The position is responsible for managing the organization’s outreach to the community in effort to increase volunteerism, advocacy and support of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County’s activities, including home construction, home preservation, ReStores, special events, and administrative tasks. As Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County is poised to increase our homebuilding, this position will play a key role in developing and stewarding a pipeline of volunteers to help with builds as well as promote affordable housing awareness and policy.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the organization’s strategies to engage external stakeholders across all industries and sectors of the community at-large, to increase volunteerism, advocacy, and support for program services.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Volunteer Department staff and interns.
  • Communicate and collaborate with ReStore, Home Preservation, Construction, and Administration regularly to fulfill needs for volunteer services.
  • Travel is required to Restore sites, preservation and construction sites, and special event sites to engage with Habitat staff and volunteers. This requires the use of a personal vehicle with standard mileage reimbursement.
  • Recruit, educate, schedule, and coordinate volunteers and internships to serve the needs of the Restores, Home Preservation, Construction, and Administration for all related volunteer needs.
  • Manage volunteer database to ensure volunteer opportunities are continually posted and volunteer sign-up is professional and thorough.
  • Ensure prompt, courteous and thorough communication is maintained at all times with external stakeholders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Recruit and train volunteers and stakeholders to act as advocates for affordable housing.
  • In accordance with Habitat Hillsborough policy, evaluate and appropriately incorporate volunteers who are performing court ordered community service and or school related community service.
  • Manage ‘sweat equity’ database in collaboration with Homeowner Services. Generate weekly report of homeowner candidate sweat equity hours.
  • Ensure volunteers complete waivers. Ensure records of all waivers are maintained in accordance with the affiliate’s record retention policy.
  • Ensure all volunteer worksites have operational technology to sign-in volunteers. Ensure designated staff members are trained to sign-in volunteers effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintain detailed records and statistical reports regarding volunteer hours. Provide detailed reports in a timely manner upon request.
  • Collaborate with Homeowner Services to coordinate home dedications including volunteer participation and recognition.
  • Create and manage annual volunteer recognition and community stakeholder event(s).
  • Facilitate the resolution of conflicts related to volunteers.
  • Other community engagement related tasks as needed.

Competencies:

  • Verbal and written communication in a timely manner with volunteers and staff.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat.
  • A working knowledge of managing online platforms.
  • Proficient in public speaking and outreach.
  • Positive working relationships with volunteers and staff.
  • Organized.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in an office. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, tablets, filing cabinets, and fax machines. In addition, this role relies heavily on using and manipulating online platforms.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate performs the following activities: standing; walking; bending, squatting, use hands, reach with hands/arms, listen and communicate.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time exempt position. The typical workweek is Monday - Friday with some evenings and weekends required for events.

Education, Experience and Attributes:

  • College Degree or volunteer coordination certification.
  • Experience working with and organizing large groups of diverse people.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint and Access a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
