Job Description Summary

The Assistant Dean in the College of Aviation, Science and Technology is responsible for assisting leadership in the areas of academic programs; the recruitment, support, supervision and evaluation of all faculty; the development and assessment of college strategy and budget; and the development of opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and growth in the college’s fields and disciplines.

The Assistant Dean will be an excellent communicator who engenders trust through accessibility and transparency. An accomplished administrator with command of budget, management and personnel issues and an evident commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Assistant Dean is a collaborator who can foster shared initiatives while maintaining a balance of centralized and distributed administrative functions.

Appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Provost and the Dean, the Assistant Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Aviation, Science and Technology. The position is a full time staff assignment.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University’s Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education;

  • Serve as a member of the Dean’s leadership team, working in collaboration with chairs, faculty, administrators and others to advance the strategic vision for the College and the University;

  • Provide oversight for College budget and participate in budgeting process;

  • Serve as the College’s liaison to the Registrar on issues related to student enrollment, grading and graduation;

  • Serve as liaison to other university offices, such as Financial Aid, the Dean of Students, Health and Counseling, and the Center of Academic Success and Enrichment;

  • Provide supervision and support for College staff involved in data collection and analysis and serve as a liaison to the Office of Institutional Research and Planning;

  • Collect, analyze and interpret information for all data-based reports, including reports related to strategic planning assessment, program review, accreditation and certification;

  • Provide leadership and oversight of assessment for the College and serve as liaison to university-wide assessment efforts;

  • Coordinate course evaluation processes and analysis; and,

  • Participate in student recruitment, retention and recognition activities and events

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned master’s degree in an appropriate discipline along with a minimum of five years in academic affairs.

  • Knowledge of current trends and regulatory issues related to higher education, research, and scholarship.

  • Working knowledge and experience in budget management.

  • Commitment to support the development of diversity and equity in the Lewis community.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • A record of personal integrity and a demonstrated commitment to the Mission of the University.
