DEPARTMENT/DIVISION Academic Counseling and Student Success Center / Division of Student Access, Involvement, and Success

RESPONSIBILITIES The Academic Counseling and Student Success Center in the Division of Student Access Involvement and Success seeks Adjunct Counselor applicants. Reporting to the Director of Viking ROADS, the Adjunct Counselor for WCC’s Viking ROADS (Resources for Obtaining Associate Degrees and Success) program, an evidence-based, high impact practice designed to accelerate the degree completion of beginning full-time college students (modeled on City University of New York’s Accelerated Studies in Associate Degree program or ASAP). The Adjunct Counselor will deliver comprehensive advisement to a diverse student population assigned as their case load and support this group over a multi-year period. The Adjunct Counselor will work closely with WCC’s Office of High School Partnership Program (OHSP) to recruit students from feeder high schools to help facilitate placement in ROADS or other WCC cohort, case managed and special programs. The goal of the program is to support successful and timely degree completion. The Adjunct Counselor will regularly track and review the progress of students assigned to their case load; promote the use of academic support services; recommend appropriate referrals and opportunity programs; recruit students internally and externally to maintain their case load; organize periodic special events related to the program and their students; and support the college’s reporting to funders through regular reports on their students’ progress. The Adjunct Counselor serves as a key support for students transitioning from select feeder high schools to WCC and to students in the Viking ROADS program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS The minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Counseling or closely related field; and at least 1 year of professional experience. The successful candidate must also possess knowledge of college courses & programs and counseling techniques. All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The successful candidate will be able to relate well with students and colleagues, have strong project management and facilitation skills, and possess a deep desire to help students succeed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Familiarity with delivering comprehensive case management advising preferred. Bilingual verbal and written fluency also strongly preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is 28 hours per week.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  The position will remain open until filled.

HOURLY RATE OF PAY:    $44.43 per hour.  This is a grant funded position through December 31, 2019, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. No benefits.
