Summary

Our research team is seeking a Research Project Coordinator (Research Area Specialist - Intermediate) to join us in our work focused on health equity for LGBTQ+ people of color. The Project Coordinator will primarily focus on the Let's Be, a research study for transgender women of color that includes focused on improving HIV prevention and care outcomes, as well as contribute to other research studies. Let's Be will implement a peer-led intervention in Detroit in collaboration with Corktown Health Center and the Trans Sistas of Color Project, as well as in New York City in collaboration with Columbia University and Callen Lorde Health Center. The project coordinator will be responsible for managing cross-site communication and coordination, working to develop/refine study protocols, IRB applications, and study materials in addition to supervising participant study visits. While not required, individuals who have research experience with at-home or in-person collected biological samples (particularly dried blood spot collection) are encouraged to apply. Project coordination may at times require communication between collaborating academic laboratories and sample collection device manufacturers. This position requires the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including academics, community partners, and community member participants.

About the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education

The position will be based in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education (HBHE) at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. What You'll Do

  • Coordinate activities for multiple research studies, including working with community partners and collaborating universities, coordinating study meetings, contributing to IRB applications, developing study protocols, managing subject incentives, maintaining study timelines, and developing intervention materials. (35% effort)
  • Lead research activities in community settings and virtually, including: assist with recruitment efforts, screen and consent participants, supervise study visits, collect laboratory samples (dried blood spot), conduct in-depth interviews, co-facilitate focus groups, and implement surveys. Includes regular travel to Detroit for meetings and data collection. (35% effort)
  • Collaborate with the research team to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses, co-author publications, and develop materials for community dissemination. (10% effort)
  • Provide functional supervision for one Research Associate assisting on research projects and two part-time Peer Health Educators (PHEs) based at community partner health clinic, contribute to training efforts for RA, PHEs, and other project staff, and contribute to capacity-sharing efforts with community partners. (20% effort)

Skills You Have

  • Candidate should have a strong background in public health and experience conducting research in community settings. Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects or a large project with many stakeholders is required, as is prior work or life experience with LGBTQ+ communities and communities of color. Candidates with experience conducting research or programming focused on HIV prevention and engagement in care and/or working collaboratively with community-based organizations are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required and Master's degree preferred in Public Health or a related field. Required: 3-5 years of related experience.  Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working with trans and gender expansive communities.

Work Locations

The full-time position will require working in Detroit 2-3 days/week and occasional in-person work/meetings in Ann Arbor, with the remaining time remote.

This is a five-year term-limited position with possibility for renewal depending on funding.
