The Dean of Clinics is responsible for providing leadership and management of clinic operations, patient care and clinic educational program on the respective assigned campus. In cooperation with the assigned administrator, the Dean is responsible for implementation and assessment of the clinical academic program on the respective campus.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Responsible to the assigned administrator and has a support responsibility to all other departments and college personnel as necessary.

  • Responsible for supervision of department personnel and others as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership for the development and management of the clinical education, activities and patient care delivery on the assigned campus.

  • Facilitate the integration of the evidence-based practice principles in the clinics; encourage and support chiropractic research in the clinics.

  • Foster a culture that embraces and promotes the mission, vision and values of Palmer College of Chiropractic.

  • Set and maintain a standard of professionalism in chiropractic care and student education.

  • Maintain a clinical practice in compliance with various governing agencies; including internal governing units such as collective bargaining.

  • Manage the faculty workload, service requirements and pay calculations.

  • Attract, develop and retain faculty of the highest caliber.

  • Enforce and support the policies, goals and objectives of the clinic and College; inform faculty of decisions, activities and plans which affect the operation of the College.

  • Implement evaluation procedures for faculty guided by the applicable handbook and/or Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); coordinate evaluation procedures with professional staff.

  • Coordinate faculty and staff development with the Center for Teaching and Learning and HR departments.

  • Work with the administrative team to implement the current faculty collective bargaining agreement and edit draft versions of future agreements.

  • Work with the Academic leadership team to integrate clinical and classroom education.

  • Manage the clinic budget including financial projections of staffing, equipment and facility needs.

  • Oversee and participate in the development of, and contribute to community and inter-professional relationships for the Clinics.

  • Participate on College committees, task forces and ad hoc task groups as assigned.

  • Provide clinic reports and analysis of such reports as directed.

  • Perform all responsibilities in a manner that fully complies with Palmer’s Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action policy.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the College Mission and Strategic Plan.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Palmer Package of Techniques, professional regulation and licensure relevant to the practice of chiropractic.

  • Ability to analyze the work environment and implement the work condition prescribed under a faculty collective bargaining agreement.

  • Ability to delegate, prioritize and perform duties with time pressures and frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to calculate and analyze numerical data.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems and develop creative solutions to achieve the goals of the College.

  • Ability to originate, strategize, and implement new ideas and approaches.

  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively to diverse individuals and various levels of constituents.

  • Ability to effectively supervise, train and develop assigned staff members.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and apply effective discretion in a variety of situations.

  • Ability to utilize general office equipment, personal computer and various software packages.

  • Ability to work various hours as job requires.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Doctor of Chiropractic degree, five years clinical experience, and established administrative or management experience in chiropractic clinical education is required. Education/training in evidence-based practice principles, a clinical specialty or healthcare/organizational administration is preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Perform sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature controlled office setting.

  • Perform cognitive and physical functions associated with chiropractic patient care, including the ability to obtain a patient history, conduct physical examination procedures, develop clinical impressions and management plans and execute chiropractic manipulative therapy.

  • Frequent need to repeatedly stand, stoop, sit, bend at the waist, walk considerable distances, lift objects up to 40 pounds, have full use of the upper extremities, perform fine motor movements with the hands and perform other similar actions during the workday.
