Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

One of 12 schools and colleges located on the University of Maryland, College Park campus, the Smith School is a recognized leader in management research and education for the global economy. A comprehensive business school, Smith offers undergraduate, full-time and part-time MBA, Executive MBA, PhD, and non-degree executive education programs as well as outreach services to the corporate community. The school is consistently ranked among the top business schools by leading business publications such as U.S. News & World Report, Financial Times, Business Week, and The Wall Street Journal.

This Graduate Assistant position involves providing the MS Office of Career Services with coaching, administrative and research assistance. High level student interaction and an opportunity to make a difference and impact the careers of others. This is a paid position, including tuition remission and health benefits. Total of 10 hours per week for a 12-month term of January 2019 – December 2019.

Coaching Responsibilities 
1. Provide in-person resume and cover letter reviews to specialty master’s population
2. Lead career development workshops and/or small-group coaching sessions 
3. Participate in meetings, panels, workshops and team activities
4. Take notes on each student interaction and update in HireSmith

Administrative Responsibilities
1. Participate in weekly update meetings
2. Event coordination and support
3. Create various documents and electronic information using Microsoft Suite
4. Manage, organize, and update relevant data using excel applications and Google Drive
5. Coordinate the promotion of workshops, events and job opportunities
6. Research and investigate information to enable strategic decision-making
7. Any additional tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics)
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants MUST be enrolled in a graduate degree seeking program at the University of Maryland, College Park. BA/BS degree required. Due to the requirements of this position, Robert H. Smith School Specialty Masters students do NOT qualify.

-Graduate level candidate focused in the area of coaching, counseling, international education, English communication, cultural acclimatization or any other related field
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Must be comfortable interacting with international constituencies in a positive, responsive, appropriate and cheerful manner. 
-Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and initiate needed changes in work processes to promote OCS’ overall effectiveness. 
-Ability to maintain confidentiality of student data 
-Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
-Ability to work with and make sound decisions under limited supervision.
-Displays high levels of initiative, is a highly motivated self-starter who takes direction well but can also work independently. Ability to bring ideas to the table with a willingness to develop and execute them. 
-Work under tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and demanding situations while maintaining a professional demeanor toward others. 
-Ability to consistently deliver high quality work within quick turnaround times and meet deadlines
-Ability to utilize Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to provide specific information about MS Programming events and make suggestions as to how maximize the potential of these tools to expand OCS’ reach to students, employers and other important stakeholders. 
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
-Experience working in career services or education preferred
