The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic and innovative Vice-Provost for Global Affairs (VPGA) to serve as the Chief Global Officer of the University. The VPGA will have a significant record of senior leadership experience, global expertise, highly demonstrated management capabilities, and a compelling record of professional achievement. Reporting directly to the executive vice chancellor and provost, the VPGA is responsible for developing the University's global strategy and vision; leading signature, cross-campus global efforts and initiatives; and supervising the institution's overall global enterprise and key global programmatic and service units. He or she will also serve as a member of the Provost's Cabinet. The VPGA will work collaboratively with: the chancellor, provost, and other senior campus and school leaders; university trustees; key alumni and donors; and a dedicated professional staff of over 40 persons to elevate, extend, and promote UNC's global efforts. We seek a visionary, transformational leader who will nurture and advance a pan-university global strategy that will enhance and grow UNC-Chapel Hill's international reach and increase Carolina's global impact and reputation. In 2017, UNC completed a campus-wide strategic planning process that defined Carolina's future opportunities as a leading, global, public research university and affirmed UNC's global character as critical to its future competitiveness and quality. As part of the University strategic planning process, a thorough review and analysis of Carolina's global programs and research was conducted and a new vision has been outlined to increase UNC's global impact, enhance its position as a leader in global education and research, and generate expanded global opportunities for faculty and undergraduate, professional, and graduate students. The VPGA will be responsible for further developing and successfully executing this vision.

Candidates should provide evidence of relevant experience and a distinguished record of success in their field, highlighting particular abilities to develop, launch, and lead highly strategic efforts. Major research university experience is preferred, but the search committee is also eager to consider non-traditional candidates who have meaningful leadership backgrounds in government service, business administration, and non-profit organizations. An advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master's) strongly preferred.
