TITLE:    Counselor

 QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Counseling or a related field.

  1. Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), South Dakota Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) certifications or willingness to obtain them.

  2. Previous experience providing academic, career, and personal counseling preferred.

  3. Knowledge of assessment procedures and interpretations.

  4. Excellent interpersonal, communication, creative thinking and problem solving skills and an affinity for working with young adults and coworkers in a team environment.

  5. Bilingual a plus.

  6. National Career Readiness Certificate Level Silver or higher a plus.

REPORTS TO:     Student Success Coordinator, Director of Student Services, Vice President

 PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Counsel students in personal, academic, and career areas.

  2. Implement a proactive approach to counseling by developing relationships with faculty and students in all programs.

  3. Refer students as needed to appropriate agency and cooperate with these agencies to assure student progress and accountability.

  4. Maintain and grow relationships with external service providers.

  5. Organize and lead support groups to address the diverse needs of students.

  6. Coordinate campus mental health initiatives, professional development trainings, and educational campaigns to promote positive behavior.

  7. Serve on the Student Success team and participate in initiatives to improve student outcomes, including retention, and lead the development of a Student Success training course or collection of resources.

  8. Orient new students and serve as one of the advisors for Human Services Academics students.

  9. Lead the response to crises on campus from a counseling perspective.

  10. Provide admissions support as needed. (Tours, Junior and Senior Tech Days)

  11. Assist the Student Services team with determining admissions eligibility, student appeals, testing, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance.

  12. Other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

190-day contract with salary and benefits determined by the Watertown School Board
