Short Description:

As the University of Portland (UP) strives to build upon our 20-year history of Entrepreneurship education, and continue to expand these programs and courses across campus, we are seeking an Entrepreneurship Professor of Practice to develop, lead, and teach in our internationally acclaimed Entrepreneur Scholars program, a university-wide undergraduate program for students of all majors. This a full-time faculty position with teaching duties during fall and winter semesters (generally, August to May). 

The Entrepreneurship Scholars program is made up of the following three courses: Creating a World Class Venture; Entrepreneur Apprenticeship, Global Entrepreneurship.  More information about the program is available here: https://www.up.edu/franzcenter/entrepreneurship/entrepreneur-scholars.html

The Entrepreneurship Professor of Practice (“EPP”) will direct the program and act as a catalyst for its development and continued tradition of excellence.  The EPP should be a builder, collaborator, leader and innovator who actively contributes to the academic community and local entrepreneurship ecosystem while leading cross-disciplinary efforts with students, staff, and faculty. Under the EPP’s leadership, students will extensively use the University’s Innovation Lab, Maker Space, Digital Lab and other campus resources, and lead the external mentoring and travel learning immersion experiences.

Responsibilities:

The entrepreneurship (“ENT”) programs are housed in the Pamplin School of Business. The EPP will report directly to the Dean of Business and will actively collaborate with the dean, associate deans, other faculty, academic program counselors, and various other departments on campus to effectively deliver the Entrepreneur Scholars’ program, co-curricular entrepreneurship activities such as venture competitions, speakers, and workshops and other supporting activities.

Specific Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Teach 12 semester-credits per year of ENT and related courses.

Develop relationships with external partners, mentors, and donors.

Advise students and build a team of ENT affiliated faculty from within and outside the University community.

Manage the Entrepreneurship Center and Entrepreneur Scholars’ logistics for events, travel experiences, scheduling, and assessment.

Pursue funded grant opportunities.

Support innovation (“INV”) co-curricular activities with ENT.

Partner with the University’s peer directors in innovation and leadership.

Manage the University’s Entrepreneurship Center, ThinkTank Lab and provide service to students and alumni interested in entrepreneurial activities, including those not connected to classroom programs.

Build upon the long-term success of the Entrepreneur Scholars program that will continue to be a cornerstone on campus.

 

Requirements:

Education & Experience

Candidates should have a minimum of a master’s degree and entrepreneurial experience that comes from practice and/or academics.  Although this position is housed in the business school, candidates outside of business are strongly encouraged to apply.

Other Requirements

Understand and appreciate the mission, values, goals, and pedagogies employed in higher education and the University of Portland.

Work effectively with students in pursuit of their goals.

Bring together and collaborate with a variety of groups and individuals both on and off campus around a vision for entrepreneurship in higher education and specifically at UP while bringing relevant programming to life.  The role will also actively fundraise for continued enhancement.

Possess an open-minded approach to leadership and creative problem solving with strong communication skills and a visible commitment to transparency, diversity, and inclusivity.

Other Desirable Background and Experience

Experience as a startup founder or team member.

Prior teaching experience, preferably in Higher Education.

Degrees from AACSB/EQUIS/ABET accredited institutions or other internationally recognized programs/universities.

Experience in entrepreneurial support organizations such as economic development, technology transfer, accelerators, venture funds, angel organizations or entrepreneurial development groups.

Experience with entrepreneurship methodologies and pedagogies such as Design Thinking, Business Model Canvas, Lean Start Up, Human Centered Design, etc.

Background in leading workshops, mentoring programs and entrepreneurial support activities in a community or university setting.
