    Position description

    Applications are sought for a full-time Project Scientist position. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team in the laboratory of Dr. David Eisenberg in the UCLA Department of Biological Chemistry. The focus of the Eisenberg Lab is on the molecular and structural etiology of neurodegeneration. .

    The Eisenberg Lab works extensively with human brain tissues, cellular models, and purified biomolecules, using techniques including X-ray and electron diffraction, cryogenic electron microscopy, computational modeling, and solution biochemistry and molecular biology. The ideal candidate will have interest and extensive experience in pursuing projects in these biophysical focus areas, will be motivated to learn and implement a variety of cutting-edge computational and experimental techniques, and will be excited to work with and develop teams within the lab. Projects may include but are not limited to computer-based molecular model building guided by experimentally determined density maps, interpretation of structures in terms of biological function and energetics, specimen preparation for structural experiments, writing of research papers and reviews, and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in these methods..

    A successful candidate(s) will have the following qualifications:
    • PhD in a Structural Biology Discipline
    • Proven ability to work in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment with scientists ranging from the undergraduate to professional level.
    • Desire and experiencing in determination of atomic structures of bio molecules by X-ray and electron diffraction, and cryogenic electron microscopy.
    • Experience in building atomic models of bio molecules into densities determined by X-ray and electron-based methods.
    • Experience in calculation of energetics of protein assemblies.
    • Experience in forming and maintaining structural biology databases

    Salary Range: $68,400 - $205,000
