Summary of Position

Under general supervision of the Managing Director, the Quality Assurance Coordinator will oversee the quality of daily operations and diagnostic testing required for laboratory accreditation. This includes development, implementation and maintenance of quality management systems that ensure continual improvements in processes and quality.

Bachelors or higher is preferred, however, an associates degree would be considered if there is substantial experience over several years (five years or more), and a demonstrable knowledge base in Quality Management Systems meeting the specific responsibilities and skill set defined for this position.

Proficient with a variety of commercial software applications (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, Adobe, Zoom, etc.) Technologically savvy with the ability to effectively troubleshoot equipment/software issues

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; highly collaborative with an affinity for team building and maintaining strong working relationships. Ability to interact with a variety of clientele and stakeholders

Demonstrated initiative (self-starter), ability to multi-task, work under pressure/constraints and meet deadlines

Skilled at employee relations including team building, facilitating teams and problem solving

Ability to teach, technically train, and provide quality-related consultation to a wide variety of technical and professional personnel

Additional Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelors degree or higher with 5-10 years experience specifically in Quality Management Systems and Accreditation. Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements for certification.

Experience with laboratory diagnostic functions, animal health and veterinary medicine.

Experience with accreditation and working with accreditation organizations aligned with ISO/IEC requirements, such as the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) or American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD)

Advanced skills with information technology and software applications

Duty/Responsibility

  • Expanding and maintaining the NHVDL’s Quality Manual and Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Establishing quality procedures, processes, and guidelines
  • Maintain quality records and document control
  • Effective utilization of the corrective/preventative action process (CAPA) and root cause analysis for quality-related nonconformities
  • Provide summaries and reports that address problems, deficiencies, corrective actions, preventative actions, and recommendations for strengthening and improving programs
  • Schedule, conduct and oversee internal quality assurance audits;
  • Ensuring personnel are prepared for external audits by third parties, including assessments for accreditation and assisting with auditor’s visits
  • Coordinating and documenting proficiency testing programs and performance checks with Laboratory Managers
  • Conduct risk assessments with particular focus on opportunities for implementation of preventative actions and other needs such as safety
  • Work with lab administration to conduct regular management reviews
  • Ensuring appropriate Quality Control (QC) measures and procedures are implemented for diagnostic testing
  • Become proficient with the laboratory information management software (LIMS) system and work with our 3rd party vendor to ensure their processes are compliant with the labs QMS and accreditation standards.
  • Coordinating calibration and/or verification of calibration of critical equipment
  • Following and understanding laboratory biosafety and biosecurity measures
  • Coordinate with lab managers the routine preventative maintenance schedules for laboratory equipment
  • Attend conferences, trainings, and meetings to represent the lab and advance your knowledge and understanding of the discipline.
  • Performing other duties as requested
  • Working in laboratory spaces may require the wearing of personal protective equipment such as lab coat, gloves, eye protection, depending on what is being handled or being done in the vicinity.
