What You'll Do

The Center for Academic Innovation at the University of Michigan is seeking a qualified Program Manager to ensure the successful design, development, launch, and operation of Online and Hybrid Degree Programs. Reporting to the Program Management Lead, the Program Manager collaborates with academic unit administrators, faculty, course design teams, and external platform partners to assist in designing, developing and delivering Michigan's online degree and hybrid programs.

The Program Management team partners with academic units and faculty innovators to develop degree programs and pathways to credit that meet the needs of learners where they are, regardless of where they find themselves in their life, career, or in the world. Supporting units from program conceptualization through launch, we help units analyze what support they need to sustain innovative and exemplary online and hybrid programs that support lifelong learners at U-M and beyond.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist academic units in the development and launch of new credit pathway programs by serving as convener and liaison for communities and stakeholders that include teams of faculty, Center for Academic Innovation staff, administrators from academic units, and central administrative unit staff. 
  • Coordinates with Center for Academic Innovation colleagues to create, disseminate and maintain resources, policies, and procedures for academic units and faculty to provide guidance and aid in the creation of online and hybrid degree programs, course materials and program launch activities.
  • Develops plans and timelines for program development and maintains documentation to disseminate required information to relevant stakeholders at regular intervals.
  • Develops benchmarks for measuring success of credit pathway programs and assists efforts to document and share this model across campus in order to inform future initiatives.
  • Works closely with marketing teams from the Center for Academic Innovation and marketing, enrollment, and admissions partners from academic units to set and reach participation and enrollment targets.
  • Provides guidance and works with Center for Academic Innovation teams to identify best practices and templates for developing capacity within academic units to design and deliver high-quality online and hybrid programs.
  • Assists academic units with developing frameworks for evaluation and quality assurance reviews of courses on learning platforms.
  • Works collaboratively with copyright personnel, accessibility experts, design teams, faculty, and third party vendors to ensure that the digital content complies with Center for Academic Innovation policies and practices.
  • Participates in conversations and communities on campus around digital learning, instructional design, project management and other topics related to carrying out the vision and mission of the Center for Academic Innovation, particularly assisting with conversations involving the Online Degree communities of practice.
  • Serves as liaison to external platform partners to disseminate program management updates as necessary.
  • Works with the Center for Academic Innovation operational team to advise administrative and student support staff in academic units on effective models and practices for supporting students in online and hybrid programs.
  • Work with the program management team to identify and establish process improvements for management of online and hybrid degree programs.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor?s degree and 5 or more years of related experience (management consulting, educational technology, instructional design, information science) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all levels within the University and ability to manage collaborative academic partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience working with faculty in a higher education setting to create and disseminate digital educational content.
  • Demonstrated experience translating organizational strategy into operations and implementation.
  • Ability to analyze and align technology solutions with instructional need? current educational and technological trends? and campus-wide goals/priorities and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of trends in technology, innovation, and higher education. Familiarity with: Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Open Educational Resources (OER), Learning Management Systems (LMS) like edX, Coursera, Canvas, and other educational platforms.
  • Enthusiasm for technology-enhanced learning in the context of a public residential research university.
  • Knowledge of accessibility regulations and related tools and techniques e.g. video captioning, descriptive audio, screen readers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems in conjunction with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage workload under time constraints and conflicting demands.
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment.
  • Experience leading the development of new online and/or hybrid learning programs is a plus.
     

Additional Information

Please Note:  This is a 5 year term limited position with the possibility of renewal depending on funding.

This is not a remote position and any adjustments to a standard in-person schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Salary Information

The general salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000. Candidates can expect to be paid a competitive and equitable salary. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position and internal equity within the unit. All candidates are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor alignment and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
