Summary

The Ginsberg Center, is a civic and community engagement center that cultivates and stewards mutually beneficial partnerships between communities and the University of Michigan to promote social change through service, democratic participation, and community engaged learning. You will report to the Ginsberg Center's Assistant Director for Student Learning and Leadership. You will be in a hybrid role, and our office is located at the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus.

Responsibilities*

  • Lead Ginsberg's contributions to the U-M on-campus process to increase student voter registration/participation by partnering with UM student organizations, academic partners and student life units, including managing in-person voter registration efforts, collaborating with student groups to train and staff tabling events, partnering with other UMICH Votes coalition members, Government Relations and additional campus units to create and deliver registration spaces and events, civic learning opportunities, social media content, event promotions and planning
  • Create reports that summarize the UMICH Votes coalition's activities, successes, and future planning to be shared with U-M Executive Officers
  • Develop and lead the Ginsberg Center's Democratic Engagement efforts with the strategic goal to increase student participation in the democratic process through civic engagement efforts beyond voting
  • Integrate civic and democratic engagement work into the Center's student engagement efforts, through the Ginsberg Pathways for Civic Engagement and Community Change, specifically in the Policy and Governance and Community Organizing and Activism domains
  • Advise and support the work of the Turn Up Turnout student organization, support their leadership development, manage the relationship with Ginsberg Center
  • Seek out and collaborate with other Student Life and UM units and departments regarding projects and initiatives that target student involvement in the Challenge and other democratic engagement activities.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in education, public policy, social work or related field, or a bachelor's degree with evidence of related skill area and 3+ years of prior experience 
  • Experience working with college age students or youth
  • Experience working collaboratively with others in a team environment to set goals and implement processes to achieve them 
  • Experience with and knowledge of civic engagement to meet unit goals
  • Experience using electronic systems for tracking and managing data  
  • Experience working in a large decentralized campus/organization
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management

Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.

Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/23 or after, will not be eligible for the university salary/merit plan in 2023 unless otherwise notified.
