Position Summary
Dr. Daniel Dominquez, Assistant Professor, Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) School of Medicine is looking for a Postdoctoral fellow to join his team. The Postdoctoral fellow position works in collaboration with Dr. Maria M. Aleman, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology Lab.
The Dominguez lab studies how gene expression is controlled by proteins that bind RNA. RNA binding proteins control the way RNAs are transcribed, spliced, polyadenylated, exported, degraded, and translated. Areas of research include altered RNA regulation in cancer, evolution of RNA-regulation, and altered RNA regulation in neurodegenerative diseases.
Successful candidates in this position will employ biochemical and biophysical approaches, as well as animal- or cell-based experiments and high throughput sequencing to study RNA-protein interactions. Candidates will also be expected to mentor and train undergraduate and junior graduate students, pursue funding opportunities, publish their research, and progress towards an independent research career.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD, MD, or MD/PhD
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The position requires an understanding of gene regulation, RNA processing, RNA splicing. Research experience in molecular biology and cell-based techniques.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with the use of computational approaches to understand RNA regulation including gene expression analysis, splicing analysis, CLIP-based methods and motif analysis. A successful applicant should have experience in biochemical and molecular techniques as well as mammalian cell culture and mouse models.
