Postdoctoral Fellowship on carbonate-hosted ore deposits

Job Description


MDRU-Mineral Deposit Research Unit at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, is looking for a postdoctoral research fellow (that has completed their PhD within the last 5 years at the time of appointment) to work on a newly funded 2-year postdoctoral research project (with possibility for extension) supported by 5 mineral industry partners, exploring alteration footprints of hydrothermal alteration footprints hosted within carbonate rocks. This project builds upon MDRU’s world leading expertise and experience on carbonate-hosted ore deposits.

The ideal candidate will have a background and expertise in economic geology and/or geochemistry and/or mineralogy, ideally with experience on working on carbonate rocks and minerals.  Background and experience working for or in collaboration with mineral exploration companies would be beneficial.  

The successful applicant will be supervised by MDRU Director Shaun Barker, and will work within a larger research team, including several MSc students. There are also opportunities to interact with a variety of faculty in the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at UBC. Therefore, a willingness to collaborate and mentor graduate students is advantageous.

  • Valuable skills for this position include:
  • Interest and/or expertise in economic geology
  • Experience with light stable carbon and oxygen isotopes
  • Strong field related skills
  • Experience with mineralogy and mineral chemistry
  • Experience with carbonate minerals and/or rocks
  • Interest in collaborating within a broader research team and mentoring students
