Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This position’s primary responsibility is to provide ESSIC with full accounting/financial support in effectively managing the NASA Master Grant Cooperative Agreement and other Grants assigned to the business manager. This includes, but is not limited financial monitoring, task re-budgeting, sub-award management, payroll distribution across multiple accounts, travel and procurement review and approval, as well as the reconciliation of the monthly ledgers.

Provides Monthly task financial reports which will include encumbrances and projections to end of fiscal year or contract/grant end date to the following recipients:
  • NASA program management office POCs for ESSIC’s Cooperative Agreement
  • ESSIC Mgmt. (Assist Director of ESSIC, DFA and Assoc. Dir.)
  • Principal Investigators (PIs)

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or relevant work experience required. Bachelor’s can be substituted with a combination of experience, training, and education. 

Experience:
  • At least 7-9 years of progressively responsible experience in budgeting/forecasting, accounting/financial support, grants and contract post-award management, travel and procurement.
  • Experience with BA3/4 is a requirement for this role (i.e. account/project management, paydoc management, reporting, posting and reconciling)

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Demonstrated advance skills in Excel to prepare and analyze complex spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal travel and procurement regulations pertaining to federal awards.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to federal awards (UG, A-21/A-110).
  • Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to federal awards (UG, A-21/A-110).

Preferences:

Preferred Educationa and Experience:
  • Master’s degree preferred, Completion of a 12 credit Research Administration graduate certificate program can be considered for the equivalent of one (1) year of relevant research administration work experience.
  • Demonstrated success in the financial management of a large award that includes over sight of 65 + separate project task. Extensive experience with financial management of NASA awards. Experience with large scale awards i.e. $75M plus.
  • Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of work coordination or training of others preferred. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Resourceful and be able to research independently the best solutions for problems that may arise.
  • Knowledge of the University of Maryland policies and procedures and how they relate to grant accounting.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace and extremely busy work environment.
  • Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, proficient in developing grant budgets with experience in technical writing and research.
  • Must be detail oriented with proficient organizational skills.
  • Experience with UMDCP systems i.e. Kuali Research, Workday (if applicable) Kuali Financial Research, BA4 (UM accounting Shadow System)) . working knowledge of PHR)
  • Knowledge and experience with Concur is a PLUS.
  • Self-motivated, very detail oriented, and possess the ability to perform duties under limited supervision.
  • Advanced Excel skills in addition to general computer skills in word processing and web-based applications.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in all communications at all levels.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and general public.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work collaboratively on complex assignments; ability to acquire, expand and apply knowledge of university policies.
  • Strong computer skills using all Microsoft Office software.
  • Possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to take initiative to ultimately promote ESSIC’s overall business effectiveness

Additional Information:

Salary range 72k – 90k.
