Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Technical Director Supervisor for the Theater Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts. The Technical Director is responsible for the execution of the scenic elements for all productions produced by the Theater Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Delivers scenic elements on time, safely, and within the assigned budget.
  • Develops cost estimates and construction drawings.
  • Supervises carpentry staff in the execution of all scenic elements and is responsible for optimizing scenic department workflow and ensuring material resources are available on a timely basis.
  • Monitors and maintains the Theater Department scene shop, warehouse, performance spaces, vehicles, and other department facilities.
  • Works closely and in coordination with the Mason Gross Facilities Manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all University safety protocols and procedures are observed.
  • Expected to maintain and demonstrate a professional artistic and technical level of working in the shops and works with both professional and student designers and technicians.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Masters degree in Theater or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of technical director in a professional setting.
  • A minimum of five years relevant experience in a similar function.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
  • A high level of computer literacy is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ETCP Certified, First Aid Training.
Equipment Utilized
  • Wood shop; Metal shop, power tools; rigging systems, hydraulic lift; Microsoft Office; AutoCAD; Vectorworks
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull heavy objects using appropriate tools.
  • Comfortable on ladders and at significant heights.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
