Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Foreperson Custodial Services. Under the general supervision io the Operations Area Manager, plans, directs and coordinates all of the
custodial responsibilities of a campus sector. Reviews, evaluates, revises and implements custodial procedures to optimize all functions and services rendered.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Instructs and supervises a group of custodians and group leaders in cleaning and general maintenance duties to assure satisfactory application of all cleaning standards on a daily basis through scheduling and supervision.
  • Interacts with Building Coordinators and vendors on a regular basis and during special events, sports events, concerts and graduation to ensure proper cleaning and set-ups and the satisfactory completion of all tasks.
  • Ensures employee safety by conducting safety meetings, outlining safety policies and procedures for staff, and performs routine testing of all equipment and products.
  • Hires, trains and supervises staff in the performance of their job responsibilities. Interprets university policies at the first line supervisory level. Responsible for conducting Step One grievances that arise in their work group.
  • Responsible for coordinating, inspecting and accepting contract services in his/her area of responsibility. Maintains requisite records accurately. Employee may be subject to mandatory overtime. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school education; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Three years experience in a custodial services field in a lead role is required.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving course.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have good communication skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Office software and in industry related standard software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • NEHA certification preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Groupwise Email; Microsoft Word, Excel; RIAS; AIM work order management system
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Effective interpersonal, planning and supervisory skills are required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds and be physically able to shovel snow and work outside during all seasons.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
