Overview

A Post-Doctoral position is available to join the Insco Laboratory in the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist to join our team! This role offers an unusual opportunity to contribute to a new laboratory in a newly renovated lab space! The Insco Lab is working to find new therapies for melanoma, the most deadly type of skin cancer by modeling human genetics and discovering the mechanisms driving melanoma.

We have an emerging interest in mucosal melanoma, a deadly subtype of melanoma.. We seek to utilize the functional in vivo genetics of zebrafish paired with single cell RNA sequencing to identify the cell intrinsic and extrinsic drivers of mucosal melanoma. The tumor microenvironment will be investigated using fluorescent reporters in these tumor models. Functional testing will be done in zebrafish and human melanoma cells. We aim to discover novel therapeutic approaches for high-risk melanoma subtypes.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments involving molecular biology, zebrafish animal models, and cell lines
  • Think independently and creatively while working collaboratively on our team
  • Mentor research technicians
  • Maintain detailed and understandable lab notebooks
  • Interpret and discuss research findings informally and in lab meetings
  • Use existing computational tools to analyze complex data sets, including single cell RNA sequencing.
  • Develop figures to depict research findings, write research and review papers, and present at scientific meetings.

Qualifications

Accomplished and motivated candidates who have attained a PhD or equivalent in the biomedical sciences are encouraged to apply. Candidates with experience in zebrafish modeling (especially microinjection), RNA biology, transcriptional biology, and/or cancer biology are encouraged to apply. Experience generating and analyzing complex datasets (e.g., from ChIPseq, RNAseq, single cell analyses, or CRISPR-Cas9 forward genetic screens) is desirable. Fluorescent imaging experience is a plus. Clear thinking, writing, and communication skills are a must. A record of scientific accomplishment as shown by a peer-reviewed original research paper(s) is encouraged.

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.  As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff.  Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
