Job Description

Eastern Arizona College’s District Offices are located in Thatcher, Arizona, a beautiful rural area with
easy access to arid as well as mountainous recreation. The College is located approximately 125 miles
northeast of Tucson and 165 miles southeast of Phoenix. EAC is a comprehensive community college
offering five associate degrees across nearly 50 programs of study. Eastern Arizona College is the oldest
member of the Arizona Community College system and is fully accredited by The Higher Learning
Commission.

Position Summary and Organizational Relationship:

Adjunct English faculty members report to the Dean over the Communicative Arts Division.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree, or higher, in English composition or an appropriate related field
  • Experience teaching English composition
  • Ability to relate effectively to students from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds, learning
orientations, and levels of preparation
  • Willing and able to teach late afternoon, evening and summer courses as needed
  • Ability to work well within a departmental structure and with other faculty in the design and
implementation of competency-based curriculum and assessment protocols
  • Experience using computers for supplemental and mediated instruction
  • Ability to teach in both a face-to-face and an online learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy
  • Demonstrated ability in using various teaching techniques
  • Experience designing and teaching online courses
  • Demonstrated recent participation in professional development activities
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in conducting community outreach projects
  • Ability to teach courses in addition to composition, such as technical writing, literature, and creative

writing

Essential Functions:

  • Teach a variety of community college transfer and developmental composition courses.

Adjunct instructor pay varies based on the load hours and student count. The anticipated position start

normal business hours, at each of the campuses: EAC Police Department, located at 620 N. College Avenue, Thatcher, AZ
(Thatcher Campus); Gila Pueblo Campus Administration Office, located at 8274 Six Shooter Canyon Road, Globe, AZ (Gila Pueblo
Campus); and Payson Campus Administration Office, located at 201 N. Mud Springs Rd., Payson, AZ (Payson Campus).

A fire log containing all reported fires that occurred at any of EAC's on-campus student housing facilities is available during normal
business hours at the Housing Office, located at 900 N. College Avenue, Thatcher, AZ.
