Position Summary:

The Psychology Program at the College of Western Idaho invites applications for adjunct faculty members qualified to teach various psychology courses which may include: Introduction to Psychology, Human Relations, Career Exploration, Research Writing, and Child and Adolescent Development. Some psychology courses are part of our General Education program or Liberal Arts program and may emphasize ethical reasoning or global perspectives. Courses are taught face to face, hybrid, remote, hyflex or online format. Successful candidates are required to complete internal trainings through our Center for Teaching and Learning before the course begins, use the Blackboard learning platform for grading, hold regular office hours, and communicate with students outside of class, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach contracted credit load of courses in accordance with the descriptions published in the CWI catalog
  • Utilize outcomes assessment measures
  • Participate in instructional evaluation processes
  • Meet all scheduled classes promptly with any deviations promptly and accurately communicated through the appropriate channels
  • Monitor and record student progress, maintain accurate records, and adhere to the College of Western Idaho’s deadlines for such procedures
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students
  • Read, understand, agree, and adhere to the Social Sciences and Public Affairs Letter of Teaching Appointment and Faculty Expectations
  • Must be able to provide own means of transportation to various locations throughout the day.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and assigned.
  • Conveys by words and action the values expected by CWI


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, or a closely related degree with a minimum of 12 graduate credits in Psychology.
  • Direct experience teaching topics such as general psychology, writing, interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence as part of a college curriculum preferred.
  • Ability to enact a variety of teaching methodologies including lectures, group activities, individual instruction, distance learning, and teaching with technology
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development
  • Proficiency in the use of internet, email, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, and Blackboard applications
  • Experience using instructional technology preferred
