Job Description

Provides leadership and direction to extracurricular and co-curricular areas of campus operation that contribute to student retention and success including The Bridge (student newspaper), the Student Government Association (SGA), Career Services, Veteran Services, Access and Accommodations, Assessment Services, and extended opportunities programs (Upward Bound and Talent Search).

Key Measurable Expectations
The Following below is an estimate of the percentage of time to be allocated to each sub-focus within oversight of the position:

Career and Veteran Services (10%)*

  • Provide support and oversight to the career services department to ensure career planning goals are being met.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of veterans’ services on campus and work closely with financial aid to ensure that all benefits are processed timely.
  • Increase awareness of academic options at LC and post-LC career opportunities.

Extended Opportunities Programs (10%)

  • Provide oversight of programs designed to encourage and prepare low-income, first-generation middle school and high school students to pursue and complete degrees in higher education.
  • Work with Director of High School Partnership and Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services to increase annual enrollment at community education centers and increase student support services at CECs.

Student Support (30%)

  • Work with SGA and interested students to review and enhance policies and procedures related to student organizations and clubs.
  • Foster student leadership development through promoting organizational involvement and community service.
  • Work with Director of High School Partnership and Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services to increase annual enrollment at community education centers and increase student support services at CECs.
  • Expand services on and off-campus for students that are experiencing non-academic barriers.
  • Develop and maintain systems to track student participation in campus programming, student organizations, and club for evaluation related to student success, retention, graduation, and completion.
  • Continue to innovate and lead developing multimodal forms of academic tutoring and academic skills development to promote student success.
  • Develop and provide a diverse range of campus programming and events for education, awareness, and entertainment.
  • Develop collaborative relationships and strategies with campus offices to increase awareness and utilization of support services for students; and participation in campus organizations, events, and programming.
  • Collaborate with other administrators and campus offices to maintain state and federal compliance including new legislation and federal regulations in accordance with the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Expand partnerships with local/regional businesses and organizations to create increased experiential options for students.
  • Manage support services and accommodations for students with disabilities, including cognitive disabilities.
  • Oversee supported College Transition and College for Life academic programs campus tutoring through the Student Success Centers; special needs academic advising, educational and personal counseling; processing student requests/applications for Emergency Loan funds and the Echo Academy funds; and processing and tracking sex offenders.
  • Manage the College’s federally approved Comprehensive Transition Program, including ensuring students’ coursework eligibility for financial aid, maintaining our partnership with Challenge Unlimited, and working with Enrollment Services to facilitate graduation requirements.
  • Review, analyze, and make accommodations and recommendations based on diagnostic evaluations and high school IEPs.
  • Collaborate with the faculty to support inclusion of students with disabilities and to encourage creativity in developing interventions to better assist students generally.
  • Develop and present information designed to build awareness and understanding of learning disabilities and of the relevant federal disability rights legislations, i.e., Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Assessment Services (10%)

  • Oversee the operations of the assessment center including accommodation testing, placement, proctored and community testing.
  • Evaluate projects and services impacting assessment and student success.

General Management (40%)

  • Maintain knowledge of best practices and trends in student affairs, student discipline, campus programming, tutoring, and Title IX.
  • Collaborate with athletics & Designated school official (DSO) to provide support services during enrollment and attendance for international students.
  • Serve on refund/late withdrawal appeals committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field
  • Five years’ experience with student affairs or closely related work
  • Knowledge of key components involved with managing comprehensive student services programs
  • Experience in management and leadership development
  • Experience developing and maintaining grant funded programs
  • Experience working with a diverse range of populations
  • Experience working with campus information systems
  • Knowledge of barriers to academic success for community college students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working across multiple areas of student services divisions
