Summary

The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN), Grants and Research Office is seeking an experienced research administrator to perform pre-award administrative activities for assigned faculty.  This includes, but is not limited to developing budgets, budget justifications, preparing Proposal Approval Forms, and other financial and administrative documents for all submissions (internal and external).  Ability to review and understand all policies and guidelines to satisfy both sponsor and U-M guidelines and meet multiple deadlines is necessary.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide assistance to departmental faculty and researchers with proposal submissions through eResearch Proposal (Award) Management system, or direct sponsor websites.
  • Prepare and develop budgets and all other required sponsor forms, according to solicitation guidelines, for proposals submitted by School of Nursing faculty and research staff.
  • Make sure all proposals meet agency and University guidelines, published timetables, and deadlines.
  • Ensure accuracy of data in eResearch prior to routing for appropriate approvals.
  • Run queries to assist faculty and staff with the preparing of current and pending support documents.
  • Collaborate and network with peers to learn and share best practices for efficiency, effectiveness, reducing liability, etc.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision will be received from the Research Administration Manager.

 

Required Qualifications*

Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience to include five (5) or more years of grant/sponsored and non-sponsored proposals, and grant/contract submissions.
  • Experience with NIH, or equivalent federal agency submissions and grant management, highly desirable. Experience with a wide variety of sponsors such as foundations and industry is preferred.
  • Experience with on-line grant platforms, i.e. Proposal Central, EHB systems, ASSIST and grants.gov is helpful.
  • Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely for various mediums, high attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage competing deadlines is required.
  • Experience with Business Objects and M-Pathways is helpful.
  • Familiarity with biosketches (NIH and NSF) and other typical grant requirements (i.e. NIH/HRSA/AHRQ JIT).
  • Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Advanced Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

Underfill Statement

This position may be under filled at the intermediate level classification.  Starting salary and position are dependent upon the qualifications and experience. The requirements listed above reflect the senior level, but those with varied experience are also encouraged to apply. Bachelor's degree and related experience of three (3) years; or three (3) to five (5) years equivalent educational and work experience is the minimum required for the intermediate level.

Additional Information

Shift/Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; may include some occasional weekend and/or evening hours. Currently, this position has the option to be remote; and will be reviewed annually per the university and School of Nursing policy.
