Job Summary
The Fu/Ptacek Labs is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organized Staff Research Associate (SRA) to assist in our goals and work in genetics and biology of Sleep/Circadian regulation. The SRA will have the opportunity to work closely with scientists in molecular biology, biochemistry, and neuroscience fields.
This job will require laboratory work such as cloning, electrophoresis, working with mice and helping with lab organization. Additional skills can be added as necessary. Previous experience in mouse handling is not required but preferred. Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new techniques is necessary. Previous experience in a basic science lab environment is preferred. The individual will be part of a team pursuing breakthrough research in understanding regulatory mechanisms for human sleep behavior.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
Throughout the Department of Neurology at UCSF, our mission is to deliver superb patient care, to apply state-of-the-art translational research methods to discover the causes of, and treatments for human nervous system disorders, and to educate each generation of medical students, neurology residents and postdoctoral fellows. By fostering cross-disciplinary interactions among scientists around the world, we accelerate the pace of discovery and champion the University's global health initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Entry-level molecular biology techniques and knowledge therein
- Data entry and good organizational skills, including to discern priorities
- Familiar with programs including: Microsoft Access excel, word, Photoshop, PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications
- HOTSHOT DNA isolation, DNA preparation; PCR OR qPCR, gel electrophoresis
- Mouse handling and mouse genetics
- Lab and office environment exposure
- Prior Research experience
- Mouse genetics knowledge
